Can
we choose our own wine? |
| |
|
Yes, of course!
Being wine lovers ourselves, we know how many great wineries
there are out there. We also understand that different tastes,
budgets and sentimental favorites all play an important role
in wine selection.
StarCut Designs has an "Off-Sale Beer & Wine
License" — we can provide you with almost any
wine of your choice.
Please be aware that wine costs and etching
costs will vary depending on your selection. Bottle shapes
and size vary considerably between wineries and can affect
etching space and difficulty.
You may also provide your own wine for
etching. Please be aware that etching costs are slightly
higher due to the labor costs of cleaning and preparing bottles
for etching.
If you don't have a particular preference,
we keep several popular wines in stock that we can recommend
in various price ranges. |

| Q. |
|
Which kind of
bottles work best? |
| |
|
We recommend
red wines.
Most of these wines come in cylinder-shaped bottles that have lots of
room for your artwork. The dark burgundy color makes a beautiful background
for any artwork & paint colors.
White wines can also be used, but keep
in mind:
- The darker the glass, the better. Clear
glass bottles show through on both sides and confuses the
artwork on both sides of the bottle. Many chardonnays come
in a yellow tinted glass, which clashes with gold and many
other colors. Dark green glass looks much better.
- Artwork can only be etched on the cylinder
part of the bottle. Curvy and rounded bottles limit artwork
space considerably.

| Q. |
|
Can we etch champagne
bottles? |
| |
|
Yes, you can,
BUT please keep in mind:
- The carbonation in champagne causes
high internal pressure. Couple this pressure with imperfections
in the glass and the etching process can cause breakage.
- Although we don't highly recommend using
champagne, we will etch these bottles. However, we will
not etch them as deep as regular wine bottles and we recommend
keeping the bottles cold and drinking the champagne very
soon after the etching process.
- We also have a way to just lightly
engrave on the glass (no painting) which is less expensive
and a less risky process.

What kind of artwork
do I need? |
| |
|
If possible,
we would love to have your artwork on disk or emailed to us.
The best format is Adobe Illustrator (eps or ai) for Windows.
If this is not possible, we can also convert other formats
(e.g., tiff, jpg or photoshop) into artwork as well. In addition,
please provide a hard copy of your artwork for quality verification.
If you do not have your artwork on computer
or disk, it can also be scanned into our computer. Please
provide "camera ready artwork" (a clean black and
white hard copy) for us to scan in. |

What is the turn
around time? |
| |
|
In most cases, once
we have the artwork, the wine, and your design approval, we can
have your bottles ready for pickup or shipment with 3-4 business
days for small orders (1 to 6 bottles). For larger orders, more
individualized and customized designs and additional paint colors,
we usually work within a 3-4 week window. Depending on our current
production schedule, this timeline can fluctuate either way.
Rush orders are possible if necessary, depending on our workload. |
